Land

Some travelers enter Bhutan by road at Phuentsholing, border town with the Indian state of West Bengal. Entry and exit via Phuentsholing is convenient for those wishing to tour Sikkim and Darjeeling before or after Bhutan. Thimphu to Phuentsholing is 6 hours drive and another 6 hours from Phuentsholing will take you to Sikkim/Darjeeling, the Queen of Hills.

Bhutan high way

Travelers to the remote east of the country may enter and exit Bhutan at Samdrup Jongkhar, border town with Guwahati in Assam. The exit this way avoids long drive back over the mountains to Paro after visiting eastern Bhutan. From Samdrup Jongkhar, drive 110 Km to Guwahati, from where you can fly to Kolkata, Delhi, Bangkok or Bagdogra or get a train connection to various Indian destinations.
